Gothic clothing
The gothic subculture emerged as a rebellion against the mainstream fashion of the 1970's. It is similar to the Victorian era mourning fashion and it is marked by its dark coloring like every other element in the subculture. There is an element of darkness, eroticism and grief or even tragedy in the style of clothing. The main feature of the Goth clothing is the color.
Goth clothes are always dark, usually a mixture of black, purple and scarlet. The dresses are usually long with tight laced corsets, and the men wear ruffled shirts. Gloves and fishnet stockings are also part of the usual attire. Goth designers use a lot of velvet, satin, lace and fishnets and leather for the material. Goth clothing is almost like a very bold statement of simplicity against the colorful and loud clothing sense that the mainstream fashion had in the days when it was born. This style of dressing is very similar to punk rock and Victorians style and it is often confused with these styles.
