Goth Music

The start of the Goth music began in the 1970's with bands like Joy Division, Martin Hannett, etc. Later, bands like Bauhaus and Siouxsie & the Banshees led to the term Goth music to be used in a derogatory sense by some people.

Goth music is a type of rock music with lots of influences from the post-punk music and alternative rock. Though it somewhat emerged from the punk rock movement, the gothic rock, as opposed to punk, combines dark music with depressing and self reflective lyrics. The music is more often heavily keyboard based with the post-punk guitar and the synthesizer sounds are reconstructed into foreboding and sorrowful music.

This Goth music often have scything guitar patterns and high pitched bass lines, with almost a tribal inclination to it. People also describe this music as brittle cold and harsh with the vocal style comprising of deep and droning effect. The lyrics and the music itself carries a dark theme and some form of almost poetic sensibility, which later transformed the lyrics to display religious symbolism, morbidity, literary romanticism, and/or supernatural mysticism.
